The most recent addition to Look Up, Jonathan creates prints with a distinctly graphic edge, reflecting his love of geometry and pattern.
He also has a keen eye for nuance and layering – evidence of his underlying attention to colour and detail. When he's printmaking, Jonathan works in a "loose, organic way. Compositions are created randomly, printing numerous layers and different colours on top of one another. This creates a subtle effect – masking some areas off, while revealing flashes of colour in others." With their painterly abstractions and beautiful, almost diaphanous layers, the results speak for themselves.
Jonathan graduated from Leeds Arts University in 2009 with a degree in Printed Textiles and Surface Pattern Design. Today he lives in Berlin, dividing his time between printmaking and designing for interiors clients – he's produced a vast collection of geometric wall coverings for London-based Tektura. He also creates his own range of stationery, emblazoned with his eye-catching geometric designs. Whether he's working on wall coverings, notebooks or a new edition, it's the experimental potential of silkscreen that continues to provide the initial spark.
We're delighted that Jonathan's joined Look Up, and we look forward to seeing how his work evolves in the months and years ahead.
