Stepping Up

Josie Molloy

From a brand new pair of editions hand-printed by Josie in the winter of 2021, exploring an ongoing fascination with geometric composition and, in this case, a desire to experiment with white gloss. It's a gorgeous individual print; even better when seen alongside sister print, Stepping Down. Warm, autumnal and stately, the colour palette was inspired by a Sophie Tauber Arp tapestry, spotted by Josie in Tate Modern’s recent retrospective. As an added bonus, Stepping Up and Stepping Down reflect Josie’s drive to run a more sustainable practice: “Both editions were made using only two screens. Reducing the number of screens reduces the amount of chemicals and emulsion required, making the process more sustainable.”
