Kate Banazi

Sydney-based Kate is a silkscreen artist, illustrator and textile designer extraordinaire.

Born in London, she originally studied menswear at Central Saint Martins but today she’s known for her graphic silkscreen prints – both on paper and Perspex. Why the change? When Kate left CSM a friend offered her the opportunity to work in their printmaking studio… That friend was silkscreen artist and fellow Look Upper Kate Gibb, and it looks like Kate B caught the bug.

Kate continues to experiment with the medium, building an exceptional catalogue of work while collaborating with other artists including Diego Berjon, a Mexican artist based in Barcelona. “Collaboration pushes me in different directions and challenges like nothing else." Her personal work is highly regarded, especially in the UK (where she’s represented by Look Up and Gas Gallery) and in her adopted home, where she’s enjoying something of a purple patch. In 2016, Kate was one of twelve artists, designers and architects selected to represent the best of Australian creativity at Milan Design Week.

From her paper editions and one-off silkscreen prints to her Perspex work and beyond, Kate's creative oeuvre has a unique elegance and verve, and we're thrilled that she's involved with Look Up.
