EXHIBITION / SIDE BY SIDE

We're delighted to announce the opening of Side by Side – the first in a series of Look Up exhibitions at Buhler and Co, one of east London's most stylish and imaginative eateries...

Side by Side presents pairs of silkscreen prints by Kate Banazi, Frea Buckler, Giuseppe D'Innella, Nounua and Sophie Smallhorn. Serendipitously, this new exhibition of companion artworks opened to the public on Valentine's Day. A coincidence? Yep. So why the title? Well, the prints featured in Side by Side were conceived as pairs, continuing or reacting to common themes and motifs. This is the first time since our launch that we've been able to present prints by Kate Banazi, Nounua and Sophie Smallhorn as pairs, while new editions by Frea Buckler and Giuseppe D'Innella provide even more reason to visit E17 and check out the show.

Some of the prints are vibrant, complex and dynamic (such as the expressive abstracts of Giuseppe D'Innella), while others (Nounua and Sophoe Smallhorn's, for instance) are notable for their elegant minimalism. Collectively, they celebrate the power and positivity of a most rewarding muse – colour. Showcasing these prints in pairs allows us to indicate a broader context, enabling us to see them less as isolated, one-off artworks, and more as stepping stones on the constantly shifting path of creative evolution. The prints featured in Side by Side are all limited edition silkscreen prints, and they're all available exclusively from the Look Up website.

Offering imaginative cuisine inspired by food from around the world, Buhler and Co is  the brainchild of Kiwi sisters Meg and Rosie Buhler. Like the menu, the interiors are considered and beautifully balanced – bright, clean spaces punctuated by warm, organic accents and a soupçon of Scandi-style. Located a stone's throw from the award-winning William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow, Buhler and Co is ten minutes from Walthamstow Central (Victoria Line and Overground) – wherever you are in London, it's definitely worth the trip. Besides the delicious fare and first rate flat whites, it's an ideal space for colourful screenprints, so we were over the moon when they invited us to showcase the work of our featured artists. Thanks guys!

Look Up is an online print gallery and a platform for artists who explore the creative potential of geometry, line, pattern and colour. Our goal is to showcase affordable prints while ensuring a fair share of the profits for the artists who create them. We launched in July 2016 with thirty-five exclusive limited editions by fifteen handpicked artists and there's more still to come – including further exhibitions at Buhler and Co. Watch this space for more news…
